Františkovy Lázně, with its characteristic bright yellow buildings, has a light, airy feel to it. Deliberately planned as a “model” spa town, Františkovy Lázně has wide open spaces and extensive parklands with level paths reaching right into the heart of the town. Not to be missed are the sounds of the springs in the Glauber Springs Hall, nor a trip to the Soos Nature Reserve where you can see hundreds of springs bubbling up. Here, discover the source of the healing peat that has been used for thermal treatments for centuries.

Goethe and Chopin were regular visitors to Františkovy Lázně and modern-day festivals celebrate them and their work. Annual events also commemorate women’s history, as the town is known as a specialist in health treatments for women and as a place of early female emancipation.

Places of Interest

František Statue

The little statuette of a boy playing with the fish is named František. This became the symbol of the healing and therapeutic powers of Františkovy Lázně.

The Francis Spring

The Francis Spring is named after Francis I. Emperor of Austria. The spring is very effervescent, so it is commonly compared to Champagne by spa guests.

Komorní Hůrka

The Komorní Hůrka volcano was once the source of scientific debate, which Goethe was even involved in. Part of Czech- Bavarian Geopark Egeria, it is one of the youngest Quaternary volcanoes in the Czech Republic.

The Spa for carbon dioxide treatments holds the dry gas spring Marie right in the middle of the town. The gas is absorbed by the skin and it lowers blood pressure and reduces inflammation.

Seeberg Castle is located approximately 5 km west of the town. The premises of the half-timbered tower granary located around the castle are dedicated to the folk culture, agriculture, and crafts of the 19th-century Egerland.

A perfect day in Františkovy Lázně

10 a.m.

Revive your Inner and Outer self

The town of Františkovy Lázně was created  with careful urban design techniques to support health, boost the body’s immune system and re-discover one’s energy and zest for life. The bright yellow buildings and emerald parks encourage you to take peaceful walks with a drink of healing mineral waters.

11 a.m.

Heal from Nature

Františkovy Lázně is proud of the fact that it is the oldest peat spa in the world and that all the natural resources used for spa treatments – peat, mineral water and carbon dioxide gas – come only from local sources. We recommend trying out the unique combination of natural resources of Františkovy Lázně and indulging in traditional healing balneo procedures, such as mineral baths and peat wraps.

1 p.m.

Discover Czech Culinary Specialties in a Café..?

Lunch is available as nutritionally balanced meals, tailor-made by spa nutritionists and experts. Czech specialties are also on offer in local bakeries and cafés.

Visitors can enjoy an active relaxation programme throughout the town. Try a yoga class, or choose a hiking or cycling route. If you don’t want to go on a demanding round trip, you can set off on the more comfortable so-called ‘heart-shaped’ routes.

From there it’s just a short way to Komorní Hůrka, the youngest Quaternary volcano which is part of the Czech-Bavarian  Egeria Geopark. Enthusiastic amateur geologists are invited to follow in the footsteps of  J.W. Goethe, who conducted study research around the volcano in 1806-1822.

6 p.m.

Bask in the Evening Sunlight

In the soft light of the evening sun, after a day full of new experiences, you can relax on the terrace of restaurants and wine bars on the main promenade. Let the peaceful atmosphere of the world of yellow and white spa houses, the colonnade and music pavilions impress you. You can close your eyes and imagine yourself back in the 19th century when musicians and writers such as J. Strauss or M. E. Eschenbach walked through the same places.

7 p.m.

Evening in the Theatre

Spa towns have a long history of entertainment, with grand theatres and music venues built for spa guests. Arts and culture is one of the best combinations and cures. Spend your evening enjoying music, immerse yourself in the drama or cry with laughter.
