With a sprinkling of top-quality festivals, its very own symphony orchestra, a year-round theatre programme and plenty of seasonal events to choose from, there’s always something going on in Marienbad.
Marienbad’s biggest event is the annual opening of the spa season which takes place over the second weekend in May. The programme includes the blessing of the mineral springs, a fair and a concert at the main colonnade which often features a big-name act from the Czech Republic or Slovakia. With the town’s many rhododendrons in bloom and the streets and parks full of people, it’s the best time to be in Marienbad.
An international music festival on the colonnade open to all jazz lovers. During the festival, the main part of the programme takes place every afternoon from 15.00 at the Colonnade.
Mid-August is the time classical music fans should head to Marienbad for the annual, week-long Chopin Festival that takes place at the theatre and several other venues, including Kynžvart Chateau. The festival programme includes a piano competition and lectures, often on a Chopin theme.
Taking place in the summer months, the annual film festival is no red-carpet affair, more a celebration of all things film. From classic Hollywood movies to experimental pictures, art house and 1950s European films - the programme features a wide range of genres.

During Advent, Marienbad holds an atmospheric Christmas market right by the colonnade, with stalls offering mulled wine, performances by local schools, lots of traditional food and Yuletide decorations plus a friendly atmosphere as the snow falls.
